The H2A – Hub Green Energy, is being developed with a very strong environmental sustainability logistics.

We foresee that its energisation, both port and rail, will be based on green energy (wind and solar) in a component of self-consumption and availability to the grid.

Complementarily we are developing the enterprise for the production of green ammonia and hydrogen for the internal (for example, for the fertiliser industry) and external markets (contributing to the ongoing decarbonisation process).

Due to its potential, this hub could contribute significantly to the “OPEP verde” of the northeastern states.

FAQ

What is Green Hydrogen?

  • Green Hydrogen is the one produced with electricity coming from clean and renewable energy sources, such as hydroelectric, wind, solar, biomass, biogas, etc. In other words, it is zero carbon: obtained without CO2 emission.
Since green hydrogen comes from renewable energy sources with no CO2 as a byproduct, it is outlined as the cleanest option for energy production.

How is Green Hydrogen produced?

  • Green hydrogen is hydrogen produced by splitting water through electrolysis. This process only produces hydrogen and oxygen. By using the hydrogen and venting the oxygen to the atmosphere no negative environmental impact is incurred.

“OPEC VERDE” – what is it ?

  • The government of Maranhão intends to make an organisation involving all the northeastern states, similar to OPEC ( Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries), in this case a GREEN OPEC, to participate in the global market. This new organisation will have the support of the federal government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will commercialise green hydrogen.

Why would the TPA – Alcântara Port Terminal be ideal for a Renewable Energy Hub?

  • TPA has factors such as port infrastructure with berths of 25 meters natural depth, thus being able to use ships of greater draft for export of green hydrogen. It also has a remarkable area for production, storage and distribution that this new renewable energy will require.
Maranhao has great potential for renewable energy production, essential for the development of the internal and external green hydrogen market.
